We are Here to Help Your Doctors Nephrologists We have an excellent team of Nephrologists working at Grand River Hospital and in our satellite unit in Guelph. If your Nephrologist is away, another one of the Nephrologists will care you for. Family Doctor Even though you will be seeing your Nephrologist much more regularly now that you are on dialysis, you will still need to see your family doctor for routine yearly examinations. Female patients should have a yearly Pap smear, breast examination, and those over age 50 a mammogram. Many people over age 40 need to have a yearly rectal examination. Whenever you see your family doctor let your Nephrologist know. This helps to keep them informed. Your family doctor is welcome to call your Nephrologist to discuss any concerns. Dentist You should also notify your dentist that you are now on dialysis. Let your Nephrologist know if your dentist is going to do any major dental repair work. Your Renal Team This is the team of health care professionals who care for you. In addition to these people there are many others who support our program behind the scenes. You can contact any member of the Renal Team by calling and leaving a message on his or her voice mail. You can also ask your dialysis nurse to help you contact a member of the team.
