About Oncology The Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, a joint venture between Grand River Hospital and Cancer Care Ontario is scheduled to open its new facility in the early fall of 2002. Located in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, the centre will be a full service cancer treatment centre, offering a broad range of treatment modalities. The following programs will be coordinated out of the regional cancer centre:
In addition, the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre will collaborate with existing community service providers to optimize accessibility, utilization, and provision of services. Networks for radiation, systemic, and surgical oncology, supportive care, and prevention screening and early detection will be a primary mode for linkage between the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre and the broader community. An interim centre was opened on 1DN at Grand River Hospital in October of 2000 in order to facilitate the transition from the current oncology program at Grand River Hospital to a full service cancer centre. The interim centre has allowed for interdisciplinary team development, the planning of efficient patient-centre processes, and support the recruitment of specialty staff. The interim centre will remain in operation until the opening of the new cancer centre.
