Medical Program


Location

The medical program is located on Floor 5 of Grand River Hospital's KW site.

Visiting Hours: 1:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

  • Only two visitors are allowed to be with a patient at any one time.
  • The hospital reserves the right to approach visitors regarding noise, length of visits, food and beverages brought in, communicable diseases and patient schedules.
  • Please refrain from wearing scented products or bringing in flowers while visiting the hospital. These products include but are not limited to perfume, cologne, aftershave, hair spray and body washes.
  • If a coloured sign is posted outside the patient's room, DO NOT ENTER. Please check with the nursing staff for further information.
  • Visitors are expected to comply with any request by staff to leave the patient's room.
  • Children supervised by a responsible adult are welcome, however there may be occasions when it is inappropriate for a child to visit. Since this is best decided by the particular unit involved or according to the patient's status, visitors will be advised accordingly.
  • Pets can have a therapeutic effect on people who are confined to a hospital setting. Please see the resource nurse for more information.
  • When visiting, please be considerate of other patient's needs.
  • Patient and family lounges are located on 5N and behind 5AC elevators for use.
  • To visit a patient outside normal visiting hours please contact the resource nurse to make special arrangements.
  • Please remember to turn your cell phone off while in the hospital

Family and friends may visit the unit during visiting hours. Rest is an important part of recovery. If visitors have a cold or feel unwell, they should not visit. Please be sure younger visiting children are supervised.

Can family help with care?

Family involvement is welcomed. Any family members that wish to take part in the care process may ask a staff member about how to help.

To facilitate effective communication, families should choose a primary contact person. The contact person may call the unit for non-urgent patient updates between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., as well as 8 p.m. - 6 a.m., and share this information with other family members. To reach the hospital please call 519-749-4300 and ask the receptionist to transfer the call.
