  • A change machine, bank machine and pay phones are located in the main lobby on Floor 3 (near the Health Care Centre Pharmacy)

Meals - Meals are served at approximately 8 a.m., 12 p.m., and 5 p.m.

Laundry - Bedding will be changed as needed. Personal clothing will need to be washed at home.

Balloons and flowers - Flowers and balloons cannot enter the hospital as they can cause allergic reactions in patients.

TV and telephones - Access to a television and telephones are available at a charge. Please ask your nurse for details. Cell phones MUST be turned off while in the hospital as they interfere with some hospital equipment.

Smoking - Grand River Hospital has a community responsibility to ensure a smoke-free environment. Patients, visitors and staff are not permitted to smoke within 9m of the hospital buildings. There is a designated smoking kiosk outside the revolving doors and across from the parking garage. Staff do not escort patients outside to smoke. Patients that are incapable physically or mentally to go outside alone must have staff permission and be accompanied by a responsible adult. For information on smoking cessation please ask your nurse.

Scent free - We are a scent free hospital - due to allergies and asthma, please refrain from wearing all fragrances.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Patients are usually on a special diet while in hospital. If you would like a nurse, speech-language pathologist (if they are involved), registered dietitian or diet technician before bringing in other foods to eat
  • Patients should be given all medications through their nurse. Any other medications patients are currently taken should be brought in for our hospital pharmacist to review
  • Infections can spread easily. To prevent the spread of infection:
    • Visitors should use the public washrooms located on each floor. Patient washrooms are for patients only
    • Visitors should wash their hands before and after visiting, or use sanitizing gel located at the entrance of each medical area and patient room
    • If you see a patient that needs help, please call a nurse
