Child and Adolescent Inpatient Program
- The child and adolescent program is an eight-bed, short-stay inpatient unit for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age with an average length of stay of five days
- The CAIP team works together with the patient and family to stabilize psychiatric symptoms, engage the youngster in treatment and develop a plan for further care upon discharge.
- Referrals are often made to both hospital based outpatient services and community supports as part of the follow-up plan
- More intensive transitional support services are available for patients upon discharge when required
Triage
- A mental health worker is available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by phone at 519-749-4310 to accept referrals for Grand River Hospital mental health services from patients' family physician. If you do not have a family physician, referrals are accepted from urgent care clinics or other mental health care providers
- The triage mental health worker will determine if the patient is suitable for Grand River Hospital's mental health services and if so, will direct the referral to the appropriate service
- Wait times for access to outpatient services are generally one month or less depending upon the urgency of the referral and service requested
- Family physicians may fax referrals to 519-749-4301
- In a crisis situation not requiring inpatient care, all services are mandated to respond urgently
