About Our Services

Grand River Hospital's mental health program at is an integral part of the continuum of health care in our community. We use several key principles to guide our program development that include:

  • Collaboration with community service providers and patients/families
  • A focus on services that a community hospital is expected to provide, with an emphasis on assessments/diagnosis, stabilization and short-term, primarily group-based treatment interventions
  • Remaining responsive to the needs of our patients and community
  • Flexibility to address the needs of an individual or family
  • Providing quality service including efficient and effective use of resources
  • Embracing the "recovery model" of care, which encourages individuals to set their own treatment goals and work towards reducing symptoms, maintaining an improved sense of self worth and dignity, and finding a meaningful role in society

We are proud to be leaders in providing mental health services and improving the mental health of our community by working collaboratively with our community partners on several important projects. These projects include regional service planning, recruitment, planning and advisory supports and educational initiatives.

Special thanks to F.A.C.E. (Families for Awareness, Change and Education) for contributing to the redevelopment of these web pages and positively supporting our service to the Waterloo Region communities.
