Grand River Hospital has furnished and equipped your room to make your stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. Food Services Most patients get a menu to select their meals. Your health care provider, family, friends, or volunteers can help you fill out your choices. If you follow a special diet let us know when you arrive. If you would like to talk to a dietician while you are here, let your health care provider know. Laundry Freeport Health Centre offers a weekly personal laundry service for a monthly fee. Your incoming mail is delivered daily. It should be addressed as follows: For outgoing mail, there is a mailbox outside the main entrance at both sites. Any mail delivered after you have left will be forwarded to your home. Nurse Intercom System All rooms are equipped with an intercom system to communicate with the hospital staff. There is a call light located near every patient's bed. Please use this call button when you need assistance. If you have any questions regarding the use of this system, please contact a member of our hospital staff. Telephones Individual telephone services are available for a fee. To arrange for a telephone, contact switchboard by dialing '0' from your bedside. Friends or family wishing to contact you can call switchboard at (519) 749-4300 and enter your extension number. The use of cell phones is not permitted within the hospital. There are special telephone adaptations available for the hearing impaired or hand impaired. For more information, contact your occupational therapist. Television Services Television sets are provided on a rental basis in each room for your enjoyment. At the K-W Health Centre for $6.25 a day (plus GST and PST) you can rent a bedside television. A $3 earpiece or $5 stereo headset must be purchased on the order date. This charge also covers the insurance, maintenance, and installation of your television. There are two television channels - 14 and 36 - dedicated to provide patients with information they may need. Channel 14, HealthTV, carries information about heart health, lifestyle improvement and cancer. The Parent's Channel on 36 carries shows especially designed for new moms and dads. At the Freeport Health Centre television, telephone, and personal laundry services may be individually purchased or can be combined for one monthly fee. Individual televisions can be rented from the hospital and the charge includes the cable fee. Personal televisions that have a remote control and headphones can be used after being checked by environmental services. You will only be billed for the cost of cable. There are community televisions installed in the living/dining room of each floor.
